Tips for Choosing a Dog Bed

Did you know that more than half of dog owners share their bed with their pooch? If you don't suffer from allergies, that might be a fine arrangement in your home, but if you do have asthma or if your four-legged BFF snores or is a restless sleeper, it just might be time for a change.

If Fido's sleep habits are negatively affecting your ability to get a good night's sleep, it is time to get him a bed of his own and take yours back!

Dogs sleep 12 to 14 hours a day, so naturally your fur children will need something cushy. Fortunately, there are many chic and comfy options for your canines, including memory foam, washable versions, chew-proof models, and any size you can possibly need. If it's time for a new sleeping arrangement for your pup, here's how to shop for a dog bed for the special pets in your life:

  • Climate Control. Dogs cannot regulate their body temperature like their humans can, so check out beds that will keep your pooch cool or warm, depending on the weather where you live. If you have cold winters and hot summers in your area, two different beds may be best.

  • Your Dog's Needs. Think about the age and habits of your dog when choosing a dog bed. Does she like to cozy up on soft fabrics? Try a soft, round bed made for cuddling. Is your pooch older or arthritic? Pick an orthopedic bed.

  • Keep It Roomy. No matter what brand or type of dog bed you end up buying, it should be big enough for your canine companion to lie on his side and stretch out. Since dogs have a wider variety of sleep positions than people do, they need the extra space.

Sweet Dreams!
